Thank you Jay Robert Magazine -- You touched the world

Since picking up the challenge of d.c.roe and his dream of 2,996 bloggers coming together for a single writing cause, I have been doing as much research as I can to get to know the special man named Jay Magazine whose name I was randomly assigned. I didn't get the chance to ever see the World Trade Center in person, or the restaurant called Windows on the World where Mr. Magazine worked. But in reading memories from his friends, and tributes from his coworkers I feel like I have had the unique pleasure of getting to know Jay.

Everyone who knew him called him friend. More than one person who wrote of their friendship with Jay said he "was the kindest man in the world." {- Andrew Freeman } Wow, I could only hope to be remembered with such love and fondness.

Mr. Magazine was one of the seven catering managers at Windows on the World, which stood high above New York City at the pinnacle of Tower One. I can't imagine coming to work every day to this view of the world all around......

On the Windows On The World memorial site, Jodi Kaye wrote this of her friend and co-worker Jay Magazine

I started working as a Catering Manager and then got promoted to a Senior Catering Manager and got moved to the "Window Seat" with Jay Magazine. It was such an honor since they thought of me over others who I worked with. I learned so much working with Jay Magazine and really got to know his family and his life. He made a huge impact on my life. I have many fond memories of Jay, most of which I can not put in writing! He would make us laugh every day with his quirkiness and his awkwardness. My fondest memories of working with Jay was when he would just start laughing really, really loud and then we all started laughing at him. I did my Father's wedding at Windows on the World about 6 months after I started working there. Those are memories I will never forget. I think that all of the people who worked at Windows on the World were so proud to work there. We all had an aura of greatness about us.

I hope that we all remember the price 2,996 people paid on September 11, 2001. They were not given the chance to choose how or when they would leave this world. They were not given the chance to decide whether they wanted to enter this war called terrorism. Instead they were thrust into it, and were forced to bear the burden of our freedom. Jay Magazine is one of those soldiers who stood proudly at the top of the world, living his perfectly normal life, doing what we all do every day. My prayers are that his family always know how much we appreciate the obviously amazing life Jay led, and the place in history he now holds. I am forever changed by this effort, I am forever more thankful that I get to look into my husband's eyes every day as he comes home from work, and beholden that my children have both of us each day.

Jay left behind a family and friends, and in his work at The Windows on the World he touched thousands of lives as he made their special occasions into memorable events. In the last five years though, he has touched millions and I am grateful I got the chance for him to touch mine.

What a wonderful idea! You created such a lovely tribute to both Jay and Mark.

I did get to see the Twin Towers in their prime. I also got to go back and see the void that they left. I don't know how to describe the difference between the two visits except to say that when they were standing tall and proud it made me dizzy to try to look all the way to the top. In fact, I had to lay down in the bus I was traveling in and look out the window to see the top.

When I went back just 3 years ago I felt like I was standing on Holy Ground. It is amazing that those towers no longer exsist, except in memories and pictures. But the lives that were lost that day will live on. Touching many people for many years to come.

A big thank you to Mark Bingham for standing up for his country that day! He had true courage and I am so very proud of him and everyone else on that flight! He knowingly took his own life so that many others can live.

C, You did a great job! Thank you for sharing with us!

I wrote about Harry Ramos, a man who was killed while comforting a complete stranger. Everyone in Harry's office made it out that day. Harry could have to, but he chose to stay behind and try to help someone he didn't know.
